YouthHubAfrica paid an advocacy visit to the National Human Rights Commission to inquire about the progress of the complaints brought before the commission in relation to the End SARS protest. YouthHubAfrica is working with Onelife Initiative, Cedar Seed Foundation, and Foundation for Investigative Journalism.
The Commission said although it has paid a total of about 146m as compensation to victims of police brutality, it is determined to follow the remaining unresolved cases to the latter. On stemming the tides of police brutality which has become a recurring decimal, the Commission said there is a special training package prepared for the law enforcement official on mainstreaming human rights in their operations. This training would help them appreciate and respect human rights when they are carrying out their duties.
The Commission said it is interested in working with CSOs and other stakeholders in making sure the scourge of police brutality is reduced to the barest minimum in the country.
