Project Implementation visit
The Executive Director Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO) Rev. Fr. Jude Isiguzo, visited the Nigerian Correctional Service Female Custodial Centre facility Kirikiri, Lagos state on July 12th, 2023 to inspect the ongoing FIRC training. The aim of this project is to empower the female inmates to make reusable sanitary pads. This is essential because the Nigerian Correctional Service does not provide pads for female inmates. Women in incarceration are left to take care of their sanitary needs the best way they can.
The In-charge DCC Diala, welcomed Fr. Jude to the Custodial Centre. The In-charge is pleased with the training so far and praised the trainer (Loveth)who is a returned citizen (ex-inmate) for the good job done so far. She took him around the training workshop to see what the inmates have done these past weeks. The inmates have been able to produce a lot of reusable pads and which have placed in packaging bags.
The inmates have shown dedication to learning. This project is of immense benefits to the inmates and the Nigerian Correctional service as female inmates become empowered to take care of their sanitary needs. This project was only possible because of the funding support from Voice.
