Different Initiatives, One Voice, To Move Nigeria Forward - SUSO September Newsletter 2022

While Nigeria celebrated her 62nd Independence anniversary on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 and marked a new beginning for us as a nation, September, for many people, heralds the end of summer, the start of fall, and the beginning of a new school year. Still, for the activists, the month of September speaks to the epoch of their activities in the SUSO program as the project gradually closes out. The SUSO activists, especially those in the Peace and Security thematic area, joined the rest of the world in commemorating the International Day of Peace geared towards promoting ideals of peace among people and nations through the observance of non-violence.

This year’s International Day of Peace, themed “End racism, Build peace,” celebrates the notion that people and nations may advance their aspirations of peace by working together. In the practice of this aspiration through deposits of their commitment, the Abuja and Lagos activists collaborated to celebrate the day as they offered diverse pathways to the issues of insecurity that have impeded the country’s growth. The celebration's highlight witnessed activists’ engagements at the grassroots and media spaces culminated in a press conference, strongly advocating the need for solidarity, commitment, and mutual trust on all fronts.

It is heart-warming to behold the beauty and glamour associated with the activists’ accomplishments in the SUSO program thus far, which has transcended through a bespoken height impacting their numerous beneficiaries significantly. Therefore, this growing momentum birthed by the SUSO program is a step in the direction of many opportunities to be explored by these activists as they work together to build a world where compassion and empathy overcome suspicion and hatred.
