Celebrating 8 years of Impact in Nigeria!

It is a season of celebration for us at Voice. We are celebrating 8 years of impact in Nigeria, and we invite you to join us for the MURYA Event/ Exhibition.

Voice is an innovative grant funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs that aims to increase participation, access, and justice for marginalised groups. Oxfam, which implemented Voice in Nigeria, has spent the last eight years supporting organisations across the country to improve the well-being of marginalised populations. During this period, Voice has funded over 50 projects while strengthening the capacities of the grantee partners to support positive outcomes for rightsholders in Nigeria comprising of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Indigenous groups & ethnic minorities, Women facing exploitation, violence and/or abuse as well as Age discriminated groups such as Youth and Elderly.

In her own VOICE

The women of Hoomsen embarked on a journey of empowerment, determined to break free from gender-based discrimination. With support from VOICE, they implemented their first project 'Our land, Our right' project to challenge traditional stereotypes and secure access to farmland which they were able to achieve. In their current project, ‘Mu ma a yi da mu’ which refers to women involvement in leadership, the Hoomsen Women Farmers desired to score another first – to get a woman into the traditional council of the community’s Kingship structure hitherto an exclusive preserve of men. In an unprecedented response, they have been able to secure the appointment of a ‘Magajiya’ (Women Leader) for the first time in the community’s entire history.
